While I was in the queue to see Nile Rodgers at the Barrowland Ballroom, John McMustard of Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 fame was passing out flyers for an event called Soapyfest, which is a tribute to John ‘Soapy’ Soatar, who recently passed away with cancer.  The event is also a way to raise money for charities The Beatson and Marie Curie UK.

I asked the Colonel if I could have a photo with him and the Soapyfest flyer and rather than just post in in my blog of the Nile Rodgers gig I thought it would be better if I shared it on facebook with some information about the event to encourage people to go to it, which John thanked me for doing.

I then thought of asking John if he’d like to do a short interview about the event to get the word out about it and he told me they were doing a photo shoot for it the next night at the Barrowland and invited me along to do some interviewing there.  Well, how could I resist?  I wasn’t sure who was going to be there from the seven bands who are playing but I knew it would be worth the trip through to Glasgow and I could maybe even get on the stage for the first time, even though I wouldn’t be performing on it, it would still be a great thrill, considering all the amazing acts I have seen perform on it over the years.

A s well as members of Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5, The Laurettes, Anthony Thomaz from DopeSickFly, Paul Ross from Scunner, Tony Gaughan and Gary Penders were there.

Bazza Mills was taking photographs and I couldn’t resist jumping in for some with the Nile Rodgers signed guitar.

Here is the promo video I made which includes an interview with Maisie McCormick from The Beatson.

Here is all the footage I shot with my camera which includes a full rendition of the Colonel Mustard and Dijon 5 new single Wild Flowers.
Here is all the footage I shot with my mobile.

All seven bands who are performing will play a song from Soapy’s favourite band, James, who I did see at The Barrowland on their Laid album tour when I went through to the sold out gig hoping to get a ticket outside the venue and perchance, I did!  It made the gig even more special to get the ticket that way.  Here is Soapy talking about why he fell in love with them.

The other bands performing that evening will be The Filthy Tongues, The Girobabies, Mickey 9s, Warren Starry Sky & The Twistettes.

The evening will be hosted by Gavin Mitchell, Phill Jupitus will spin tunes between the bands and Ken McCluskey of The Bluebells will be doing a special guest appearance to end the night, which you will not want to miss.
If you buy a T shirt or a ticket from Ticket Scotland or in person at Blitzkrieg you get the chance to win the epic guitar that Nile has signed and also written ‘We Are Family!!’
