So intrigued by their name I checked them out on youtube and thought I need to go to their concert and when I went to Ticketmaster they still had some tickets left, so it appeared they hadn’t sold out afterall.
As it was late at night I thought I would wait until the morning and get some then but I had to go to work at 5.30am and was too tired to do it and when I got home, they had all gone. Doh!
I kept trying all week but alas, there were no resale tickets popping up and I had all but given up but when I was waiting for my medical to get my Private Hire Drivers Licence and was informed the Doctor was running late, I thought I would give it another go and lo and behold they had some available.
I couldn’t type the numbers in fast enough in the hope that no-one else would get them and the doctor wouldn’t call me and indeed I was lucky on both counts and secured the tickets. Yee-ha!
From the clips I saw of them on youtube I knew this was going to be epic!
As you can see my son was very excited about the gig too. In fairness, he has decided that it is not cool to smile in photos so he could be waiting for his favourite Black Metal band to come on and look the same.
I had listened to some songs of the support band Blood Ceremony who were from Canada and got there early to make sure we caught their set too, plus we are Scottish so we have to get our moneys worth.
My son didn’t like the singer too much but gave the band 7 out of 10 but I thought they were more of an 8 out of 10 and had a very interesting mix of styles, including some flute playing by the singer which was very Jethro Tull.
I was pretty excited about seeing Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats but I certainly didn’t expect it would be as good as what it turned out to be.
I thought they were 7 shades of awesome and I have never enjoyed my hair as much before while my son could only watch in envy as his hair was butchered about a month ago by an over zealous barber.
I had read an interview with guitarist, vocalist and all-around mastermind Kevin Starrs in Revolver Mag where he said he couldn’t connect with some audiences as they were too busy staring into their phones to record the full gig so I wasn’t going to bother filming any of the gig but I couldn’t help myself.
Here are a few of their songs which I recorded with my elbow resting on some upside plastic beer glasses as I watched the band through my real eyes rather than a digital screen. It does make a difference believe it or not.
I told someone from the band or their admin afterwards via a facebook message that I have been to many gigs over the years and that they were right up there with the very best. I just didn’t want it to end.
They find a spot in your head and park the groove bus there and then just drive it home. I would become an Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats superfan if I had the time and the money to follow them around the country on tour.
I wouldn’t follow this guys T-Shirt advice though.
We then went for a Chippie and headed to the Station to get the train back to Linlithgow and some German dudes sat close to us and hid their beer as the inspector went past.
One offered me some of theirs to drink and it would have been rude to refuse so I taught my son a valuable lesson about how some rules are made to be broken….as long as they aren’t my rules.
