The line up wiz pretty full but the organiser said if a’ could dae 3 minutes then he’d pit me on first. So a’ ventured through tae the big city tae take part in the Glasgae Comedy Festival.
As ye kin see it wiznae easy breakin’ the ice, especially wi’ a poem but a’ struggled on.
Think a’ managed tae swing it roond by the end.

Ed Hooper had organised 2 nights of comedy at The Griffin as part of the Glasgow Comedy Festival and I managed to get a spot on the second one for Nob. Well, he told me to turn up and he would try and fit Nob in.

When I did turn up he said that he had too many comedians booked so I said I could do a 3 minute poem and thankfully he said ok to that and that I could start the gig, so at least I wouldn’t have a wasted journey.
He had so many comedians on though that he didn’t do any compering warm up and Nob was thrown to the cold Lions.
Fortunately Nob managed to scramble his way through the poem although at one point he forgot a line so blamed Ed for not doing any warm up, which bought him a bit of time to remember the rest of the poem. Thank God.
It is amazing though how many really good acts are coming through the Scottish comedy conveyor belt these days and every one of the comedians on that night had something to offer.
I can’t remember the names of many of them though but this guy had a particularly unique style which was really captivating and original.
I had met William Clark who was featured in the Daily Record recently at another gig called Wild Caberet a couple of weeks ago but I didn’t see his act as I was behind the curtain waiting to go on.
On this occassion I was front and centre and he too had an original vibe to him, not least because his act consisted of him eating about 6 Tunnocks Tea Cakes but as he is a recovering drug addict, at least he has moved on to slightly less damaging fixations.
During the show Ross McPhee was taking photos of the acts so I thought I would take one of him.
I was attending a comedy course recently, which I had to leave, due to the fact that I upset another attendee with my questioning of the official version of a particular episode of ‘His-Story’.
Anyway, I got a nice surprise when I walked out of the toilets to see 3 of my fellow classmates there, who had just done their first ever gig, to check out their new found competition Here I am with Ed and John..(I think).
Another comedian who caught my eye was this guy who happened to be the last act and who is a Barman in Ayr. He has a nice acerbic wit which I quite enjoyed and I think he will do well if he continues treading the auld comedy boards.
As I said though the standard throughout was very high and I think it scared John a little bit into giving up before his Second gig. Here’s hoping he doesn’t because if nothing else it is a fun crowd to be involved with and keeps this mundane existence at least a little bit interesting.
