Alison O’Donnell is an Irish singer, songwriter and musician born in Dublin. At the age of just 11 she co-founded the progressive folk rock band Mellow Candle with school friends. They released their first single at the age of 15 and went on to sign to Decca Records, releasing their cult album Swaddling Songs on the Deram label in 1972. The album made little impact at the time but over the decades has been recognised as a folk rock classic and is now a highly sought-after collector’s item. Mellow Candle played alongside the likes of Genesis, Thin Lizzy, Donovan, The Chieftains and Steeleye Span.

I had the great privilege of interviewing Alison, who was a founder member of the band Mellow Candle who now releases great records in her own name.
