Polite Bureaux were already on stage when we got to La Belle Angelle but we still managed to squeeze into a spot on the barrier down the front for the remainder of their set. The front man was very charismatic and Emma loved their song about Scratch Cards as she has bought more than a few over the years.
The second support act of the night was Porky The Poet, who you may know better as Phil Jupitus. There was a couple of spots in his set where he was looking at me directly and when he asked if anyone has a podcast, I raised my hand and got a very direct response.
I don’t know how I found The Lovely Eggs but I’m sure glad I did. Perhaps it was the artwork to their albums that caught my eye and made me dig a little further. On hearing their music I was immediately smitten and I can’t believe they’ve been at it for over 20 years without getting to be household names. Their music is bursting with creativity and is punk/psychedelia and pop rolled into one.
It was cool to have a brief chat with Davy and Polly after the gig but I kicked myself that I didn’t ask them to sign my cd or to have a short interview about their tour, especially as I said to Emma that I wish I asked Mary and Jaimee for an interview the night before.
