One of my favourite gigs ever was Primal Scream at the Barrowlands on the XTRMNR tour which had Mani on Bass and Kevin Shields on guitar. Although I am not a fan of the Hydro, I will go when the occasion calls for it, eg Mark Knopfler, The National, The Doobie Brothers and Slayer. So, My Bloody Valentine, was another one to add to the list, if only to hear Kevin perform in his original band, but that was not the only reason. I love their albums and I knew it was going to be a sonic boom attack of the highest order and I was not disappointed.
I was bidding for tickets to The Throwing Muses and Dinosaur Jr which were on the same night and the Muses won. So I was really pleased that J Mascis was the support act. I was less pleased at the manners of the people around me who can’t shut the fuck up.
I was thankful there were was an empty area up the back so I could escape the humans. I took as isolated a spot I could get which was in the back row and although there was a no filming policy which was getting enforced with aggression by one guy in particular, I managed to get some footage while he was scolding others.
