I was a fan of Fine Young Cannibals from way back. Their first album was a stone cold classic and the second was no slouch either. So when I heard Roland Gift was bringing his 40 Years of Fine Young Cannibals tour to Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, getting tickets was a no-brainer.
The support act was a Frank Sinatra tribute singer, Pete Sinclair, who reminded me of my friend Pete Cunningham, who does the Frank Sanazi act.
Fine Young Cannibals split up years ago but Roland Gift is still going strong as a solo performer. His voice is one of the most distinctive in pop music and it sounded just as good live at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall as it did on those classic records.
I asked them to keep it down, which went down like a lead balloon, so I took Emma to the side of the stalls for a while. Towards the end a couple left the front row so we grabbed their seats for the perfect view of the finale. Roland Gift delivered a brilliant set of Fine Young Cannibals classics and the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall crowd loved every minute.
