I heard about an old friend
A guy I used to work beside
We used to be quite close
He called me his surrogate son
He had come down with an illness
It will kill him in the end
I went to show him what I had learned
And what a clever dicky I had become
Within the first five minutes he said
My God, you haven’t half changed
I took it as a compliment
He meant quite the opposite
You used to be so carefree, happy and a bum
What the hell has happened to make you look so glum
Too much guru worship has burned your inner sun
For god’s sake I am dying and you are so bloody young
I listened to him speaking
It rang some kind of truth
Live life in the moment
He is living proof
From this moment on I promise to forget the books I’ve read
Reality is calling and I need some peaceful bed
Wise men are all around with answers to be found
I love my wife, I love my life
But I never show it
Wake up to every moment
Your natural character is being repressed
People like you for who you are
And are not easily impressed
You are not some valued teacher
We all find our own way in the end
Lighten up you silly fool
It’s a laugh and only a game
Take these precious moments
Live life to the full
I love me I love the world
Don’t change for no one but yourself
And only for the better
Cheers!
