My friends and I went through a weird phase of watching the film Grease nearly every Sunday at my flat, which was the start of it becoming party central headquarters. So much so we nearly wore the video out.

It started when we were about eighteen, round about the same time we started smoking dope, coincidentally enough. I know it’s not deemed that type of film, but it struck a chord with us for some reason.

So, when Grease came to our local cinema in Falkirk for a one-off showing we were first in the queue. In fact, we were the only ones in the queue. We couldn’t understand why there wasn’t anyone else queuing to see this all-time classic.

When the rest of the audience turned up, we realised we were the oldest ones there by far, that never had their children with them. We thought, ‘Oh for fuck’s sake, we’ve taken this too far’.

As we were there already, we decided to stay and watch Danny and Sandy and the rest of the gang on the big screen. All the way through the film all you heard was these high pitched voices going, ‘Summer loving had me a blast,’ or ‘Hopelessly devoted to you,’ or ‘You are the want that I want Oo, Oo, Oo, Honey’.

Eventually one of the parents said, “Look will you guys shut the fuck up. The kids are trying to enjoy the film and you’ve done nothing but recite every word since it started”. “Oh ok, sorry about that”, I said.

Two minutes later we were at it again, ‘Danny! Sandy! I thought you’d gone back to Australia. We had a change of plans. Oh, that’s great baby you know how it is, rockin’, rollin’, what not’. On and on it went. Eventually the usher came and told us to be quiet or leave. There was a big scene which didn’t end as happily as the film, well, at least not for us as we were ushered away.

Cheers!
