I decided to go to on a Marmaris adventure for the Summer as I have read so much about it on facebook and wanted to see it for myself and also because many British holidaymakers go there so I wanted to see if I could find a place to perform comedy regularly.

I booked into the Hotel Club Maris for a week as someone I contacted on facebook recommended it to me as being cheap at 55TL per night.

The hotel was nice enough and although it is not located near Marmaris promenade there are quite a few bars in the general locale so I ended up going around them to see if I could get a gig.

I met these lovely ladies from Glasgow at The Parkhead Bar and the manager there said I could perform a gig the next night.

I told them I would perform as Nob Stewart and that I would be swearing so the show would be for adults only. Let’s just say that it could have went better. The mic was terrible, there was noise coming from other bars, the set up was not conducive to comedy and I probably should have started off being myself instead of launching into full steam ahead Nob patter. Still, you live and learn.

The owner wasn’t too happy with the manager for allowing me to be let loose on his customers but I don’t think he held any grudges against me as afterwards he said I was welcome in the bar anytime……presumably as long as I don’t get let anywhere near a dodgy mic.

Parkhead Bar Owner

I met this really nice couple from Middlesbrough who I got talking to cause the guy said I was funny, so I took some solace in that.

Time was running out and I needed to find a place to stay and work of some description. One person led to another, which led to another which led me to trying to hassle people from the street to come into a restaurant which had no electricity. Yep, that was a tough sell.

Needless to say that didn’t pan out too well either, but I did meet a Tribute Elvis act and a cool waiter called Mesut, who arranged an interview for me at a hotel where his brother worked.

I’ll let you know how that went in my next blog.
