Someone told me about a School that was looking for Teachers and gave me their contact number so I called the boss and tried to explain my situation to him and ask about the details of the job but he said he would rather meet face to face and that he would be in his office all afternoon.
I took my son with me and he wanted to show me the exercise machines on the way. I have never been a gym person and not just because they usually cost and arm and a leg to join but I must admit it is a good idea to put these things in the park where you can catch a bit of sun and fresh air while getting some exercise and they are free too!
I still don’t use them though, apart from the odd pose for a photo as seen below.
On arriving to the school I was met by a teacher who said “He is not coming to English class, is he?” referring to my son who he had heard talk. I said “I didn’t say he was”. Then I got the usual “Where are you from?” line. To which, depending on how I am feeling, I usually reply “The Universe” or “The World”. I said the former on this occasion. I only occasionally say Scotland. I don’t like being judged so quickly based on where I happened to be brought up.
I asked him where the boss was and surprise, surprise he wasn’t there. Apparently he was at some other meeting across town and would be back ‘soon’, which could be 10 minutes – 5 hours later.
I tried calling and texting him but got no answer so I took my son to the Music shops that are in the Mall at the end of Güluk street, encountering the Tasmanian Devil while we were there.
I called him again and still no reply so we went to a local park which led down some steps to a cliff edge with nice view of the harbour.
We made a short video while we were there, mainly because my son thought the boat was going to crash and it would look good on Youtube.
I then played a tune on the large Piano for a while. While I was standing watching my son do the same a lady in the Park saw me and burst out laughing. It’s good to know my comedy skills are still in order.
The also had some Piano keys on the steps as well but it would have been too easy for my son to use them.
I saw Spongebob and couldn’t resist getting my photo with him as I seem to be building up a bit of a collection of photo’s with myself and the little guy. Aynur says I look like him. Mmmmmm.
On the way to the bus stop we passed the school and so I popped in to see if the boss who doesn’t reply to his texts was there and surprise, surprise he was. When I asked him why he wasn’t there after we agreed to meet there he said he had just got back.
We went into his office and it turned out he didn’t know how many students he would have this year so didn’t know how many teachers he would need and thus, there was no job to speak of, as such. Typical. He took my number and said he would get back to me. Yeah, right.
These kind of things happen all the time here and needless to say it gets a bit frustrating. I guess it wasn’t a complete waste of an afternoon as I had a good time with my son and we both got some fresh air away from our respective computers.
The Photos
Cheers!
