After the fabulous Neil Young Tribute Night I went back through to Edinburgh the following evening for an Americana night but when I got to the Bar there didn’t seem to be any sign of it.

After waiting a while I checked for other events on facebook and discovered that the Leith Festival also had a Jazz and Blues Festival as part of it, so off I went in search of another evenings cool sounds.

When I arrived at The Fat Badger and there was no-one playing there I was beginning to think the whole thing was a wind up but after 15 minutes or so these two guys set up.

I recognised Stuart Crout, mainly known as Pockets, from playing Henry’s Cellar Bar a few years ago with his band at the time called Affordable Chocolate.

I even made a video of them in the Royal Mile during the Festival.

During the interval I had a chat with Pockets and he told me that he has been working on and off with the other guy in the band, John Anaya, for 7 years.

Pockets and John met in 2010. Fringe. John was in a show, Devil in the Deck with magician Paul Nathan. Pockets was hired to make our promo video. We hit it off immediately. Pockets was barely 21. Ha!

In 2011, they did a daily comedy variety show in the Counting House. Pocket Fox, me and 2 magicians. In 2012 John came back to Fringe and pulled Pockets and Martin Beer from Jen and the Gents to be Johns band during the Festival. They’ve been together since. This year will be John’s 10th Fringe! He’s been living in Edinburgh for 3 years now and is originally from San Francisco.

They are certainly a good combo and have what appears to be quite a large repertoire built up over the years.

I got Pockets attention by dancing up the back and eventually the crowd dispersed and I was able to make a few video clips of them performing which you can check out below.

I had to leave before the end as I had to get up at 5am for work otherwise I would have stayed to the end of their set.

Here’s hoping I catch them around again sometime as they certainly know how to get the place going.
