It had already started at 6pm but I decided to take a drive through to catch the last couple of hours and I am really glad I did.
When I got there the bar was totally packed and I couldn’t get as close to the front as I wanted but after a while a space appeared and I stood front and centre, ready to rock.
I caught the last 4 acts and all of them were very good but I think Jeanice Lee stood out, not least because of Jeanice’s awesome vocals.
She told me that her band released an album in March 2019 and you can you can check it out on youtube here.
Here I am with another couple of musicians. It was hard to tell who was from what band as they were doing guest spots on each others sets.
Just as I told these guys that I do stand up comedy, I knocked over a full bottle of beer. It’s all in the timing.
The night was put together by Scott Renton who is in The Heartbreak Diet.
By the end of the night Scott and a couple of other dudes were singing along loudly down the front and even doing a bit of pogoing which would explain the incredible shaky camera work on some of the videos below.
I had a good laugh with this guy who was the guitar player in The Heartbreak Diet. I was singing ‘Old Man’ with Scott and this dude asked me how old I think he is. Without skipping a beat I said ’59’.
You could see the look of confusion on his face as I guess people normally guess younger out of courtesy.
Then he started pissing himself laughing and we became Good Buddies for the rest of the evening.
There are a few clips I shot on my mobile, including a couple from the DJ set after the gig.
I thought he was the best DJ ever as he started off playing The 13th Floor Elevators as a tribute to the recently deceased Roky Erickson and then went on to play a number of other tracks that me and my Buddy were really getting into in a big way.
It turns out that he was cheating though as I found out he was playing tracks from artists mentioned on the back of the Buffallo Springfield Again album, on which Neil Young played.
Still, good tunes though. Here are the videos I shot on the night.
I felt very humbled at the end of the evening when Scott told me I had helped to make it such a great evening. In reality, the bands did the work, I just enjoyed myself but glad to have helped out in any way I could.

Cheers!
