In the Nineteen Fifties rock’n’roll was porn
The King’s gyrating hip movements ignited the horn
Jerry Lee’s balls set whole cities alight
While Little Dick’s playing gave Grandma a fright
Sixties grooves inspired the changing world
For a few heady light years, the men looked like girls
A revolutionary new pill had a profoundly liberating effect
The youth all went crazy with psychotic unrestrained sex
Seventies heroes fervently chased the evil dragon to hell
But the stairway to heaven, it started to smell
Anarchy had its fiery potential extinguished
Now even John Lydon speaks the Queen’s English
New romantics were sugar daddies by the end of the Eighties
They were about as useful as a porn star with rabies
Talent was replaced by shite you could not imagine
John Lennon was dead and good tunes were on ration
In the Nineties rave fever spread through the land
But it got too contagious and destroyed our good bands
Corporate giants moved in to strengthen their hold
The kids were abused, now they like what they’re told
What does the millennium hold in store for us all?
Do we have to put up with the sound of the fall?
Why don’t we listen to music with passion?
Or are we too numb to feel what’s no longer in fashion
