Andy Woodward is a former professional footballer who made national headlines when he became one of the first players to publicly speak out about child grooming and abuse within football. His revelations opened the floodgates for hundreds of other survivors to come forward and led to major investigations across the sport.
I was very interested to watch Andy Woodward be interviewed by James English as I was aware of his revelations about child grooming within football when he first broke the story six years ago.
I have a story to tell about another football trainer, Gordon Neeley, who abused children in Scotland at clubs such as Hutcheson Vale, (whom I played for), Hibernian and Rangers.
When I met Andy at the It’s Time to Rise festival I did mention to him that I would love to interview him and thankfully he agreed. So here is my chat with Andy and I have nothing but huge respect for what he has endured and the great challenges he has overcome to keep speaking his truth.
