Last night I watched Ed Byrne’s new DVD
He certainly is a cheeky chappy
Yet insightful and very endearing
He made my foul mood a little bit happy

But then I watched the extras
Something I don’t usually do
Because I download from the net
They are hard for me to accrue

But this time I was more fortunate
The pirate was thoughtful and kind
He went the extra mile to make sure
The Treasure was not hard to find

The extras were just Ed and Jimmy Carr
Talking their way through the show
As I used to perform comedy
It was great to hear what they know

For instance, I didn’t realise this
But their shows are meticulously planned
Whereas I just used to wing it
I guess that’s how I ended up banned

One time I did write some stuff down
But I found performing it absurd
It was met with a room of blank faces
Maybe I should have polished the turd

Cause that is what Ed and Jimmy do
They spend months going over every detail

So much so if you handed them their script
They would be able to read it in braille

They have given me food for thought
Maybe I should get back on the horse
I wonder if I would get back into the clubs
If I showed a platitude of remorse

Or I could do another show at the festival
Except this time, I could use punchlines
Cause you will find at a show without them
The lack of laughter truly undermines

Still, you live and learn so they say
Or do I just like banging my head against walls
Maybe it’s true what my friends tell me
I have got loads of unfunny balls

I guess there is only one way to find out
Once and for all if I have what it takes
And that is to put the work in to climb ladders
Instead of lazily sliding down snakes

Cheers!
