Barb Jungr Interview

Barb Jungr is an English singer, songwriter and composer from Rochdale with Czech and German parentage. She is one of the most acclaimed cabaret and jazz vocalists of her generation and is best known for her interpretations of songs by Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen and Nina Simone. Her 2002 Bob Dylan album was described by the Wall Street Journal as the most significant vocal album of the 21st century. She won a Nightlife Award in New York for Outstanding Cabaret Vocalist and has performed at venues like the Cafe Carlyle in Manhattan. She emerged from the alternative cabaret scene of the 1970s and 80s alongside the likes of Julian Clary.

I met Barb when I videoed her at the Edinburgh Festival in 2012 and told her in the foyer afterwards where I arranged to send the vids to her. We have stayed in touch over the years and although I asked her about 8 years ago to be interviewed, we finally managed to arrange one. I hope you enjoy it.

I thought it was about time I caught up with Barb again and was delighted she was up for another chat. We had a few gremlins but got through it in the end.
