I am a performance poet
And have just now realised
After searching years to find out
Where my talent lies
My life’s an education
A university of love
I am a fallen angel
Trying to free the dove
I say thanks to all the people
Friends, colleagues one and all
Who have taught me the simple meaning
Of feeling ten feet tall
I fear I have made my breakthrough
From here you all look small
Have I taught you anything?
Or do you still watch the ball
Evolution is our purpose
We can do it standing still
No early morning rise
Just to pay another bill
Does your work make your heart sing?
If it does then you made your nest
Settle down and let the phone ring
That’s what you get for doing your best
