Ok, this song, Psychotic Reaction is a pure classic that a’ jist never get tired ae listening tae. It is by The Count Five who were a 1960s garage rock band fae San Jose, California and this is there only song of any note really achieving a number 5 spot in the billboard charts in late 1966.
The band was formed in 1964 by John “Mouse” Michalski who was obviously given the nickname due tae his body size which was pretty big. They used tae wear Count Dracula style capes when playing laugh which is always guid fur a laugh, ken?
John “Sean” Byrne who plays rhythm guitar and sings and is fae Dublin in Ireland devised the song with the rest of the group refining it and turning it into the highlight of their live sets although the song wiz influenced by the style of contemporary musicians such as The Standells and The Yardbirds
The band split up because the 5 members who were all jist between the ages of 17 and 19 decided tae persue college degrees!!
Lester Bangs my favourite Rock Journalist of all time immortalized the band in 1972 when he wrote and essay called Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung where he imagined that the band went on tae record several albums like Carburetor Dung, Cartesian Jetstream, Ancient Lace and Wrought-Iron Railings, and Snowflakes Falling On the International Dateline — that displayed an increasing sense of artistry and refinement but which only existed in Lesters imagination. (A’ will hae a pint of whitever he wiz on).
