I have taken part in a Gong Show before as Nob Stewart which didn’t end too well as I ended up punching the organiser Alan Anderson on stage.

I wrote an in depth blog post about this called The Grand Gong Show so you can check that out if you so desire. I keep it under the Patreon section as it is not something I am particularly proud about but it is a mad little story all the same.

When I saw that Alan had advertised another Gong Show on facebook at his new comedy club venture at The Rotunda I thought it would be interesting for Nob to give it another bash and perhaps bury the hatchet once and for all as there was a bit of ‘afters’ with the previous episode.

Other than that though I knew it wouldn’t be a good idea though as I really hate Gong Shows. I mean, I guess they may have a certain charm for the madness of it all but really what is the point of booing comedians offstage before they can even begin to get into their set.

I don’t see any of the audience members getting up and giving it a go so they should shove the cards up their arse as far as I’m concerned but maybe I’m biased having never won a Gong Show or any other comedy competition for that matter.

I arrived in plenty time at The Rotunda, which is situated just opposite The Hyrdro, where I took my son to see Slayer.
Some other professional standard comedians were on before the Gong Show including the excellent Mark Nelson who gained some internet fame with his short videos called ‘News at 3‘ with his 3 year old daughter.

Alan then took over compering duties and Mark moved to being The Bitch In The Box, which was basically to make jokes that were insulting but funny as apparently it was still a comedy night and not a night to burn comedians at the stake.

Here is one sacrificial lamb to the slaughter that did reasonably well under the circumstances. Alan even spoke up for her after she got gonged, which he didn’t do for anyone else.

My good friend Oliver gave it a crack but he ended up more in shock at the fact that no-one seemed to really want to hear any jokes but seemed more concerned with being ultimately judgemental before the comedian go to the end of their supposed grace period of 2 minutes.
Here is Oliver having a go at beating the gong.

Nob didn’t fare much better.
Of course, some comedians did better than others and William Clark  took home the £200 cash prize in an audience vote over the other two comedians who had also make the 5 minute mark.
His act consisted mainly of shoving Tunnocks Tea Cakes down his mouth but seemed to be a good fit for the insanity of the Gong!

Nob will write about his experience and put his video into the Grand Gong Show blog and will more than likely never enter another Gong Show ever again as he could have just slept in the bathtub and had a more enjoyable experience than subjecting himself to a crowd of haters stirred up by the notorious AA himself.

Rotunda Gong Show

Round 2

Incredibly I thought I would have another go at Arsehole’s gong show this time as myself. It didn’t turn out any better, in fact, probably worse.

Arsehole showed up at another show I was doing and tried to interrupt my set. I had learned by that time he wasn’t worth my energy so I didn’t take the bite.
