One time I popped a second ecstasy pill at a rave in Ayr Pavilion without realising that the club was closing five minutes later. The car journey home was interesting. I was coming up as everyone else was coming down.
When I got home, I started talking to Bez in my Happy Mondays, ‘Twenty Four Hour Party People’ poster. That’s when I thought it may be a good time to stop taking ecstasy, before the posters start talking back to me.
I decided to stop going to the raves with all the masses of losers and instead, I started getting heavily into acid.
The first time I took acid was at a my first rave at a Blair Drummond Safari Park in Stirling, before I took any dancing sweeties.
I drove there but climbed into the boot of my car and got a friend to drive through the gates so I didn’t have to pay the £5 entry fee.
It felt like an opportunity to be a bit crazy and act like I was sneaking into an American style Drive-In, but my world was about to get a whole lot crazier.
I hadn’t been to a rave before and I didn’t see much alcohol being served and so when someone asked me if I wanted ‘a tab’, I said ‘Ok, whatever’, and stuck a small piece of squared paper in my mouth …. with no idea whatsoever of what I had just got myself into.
About twenty minutes later I am staring at my face in toilet mirror wondering why the fuck it looked so freakin’ weird. I was quite naive and although I liked sixties music, I hadn’t read up on much about LSD and its mind bending qualities.
I have learned a lot more about it since then and in fact it had a big impact on my life in many ways, most of them being negative as you will come to see.
That night I had to get ‘Psycho Dave’ to drive my car back to Stirling from the rave as I was in no fit state to operate it. I got about an hours sleep at my friend’s house before I had to get up and go to work.
My shift team were asking me why I was staring at the floor so much and I couldn’t really explain how cool the floor tiles were looking, as it would probably have given the game away that I was in La La Land, but I’m sure they must have had some idea I wasn’t just on the tequila slammers the night before. That put me off acid for a while and I just took ecstasy for the dozen or so rave’s I went to after that first one.
Cheers!
