Kevin Gilday is an award winning writer and spoken word artist from Glasgow he co-hosts Sonnet Youth, nights of spoken word cabaret in the South Side of Glasgow with Cat Hepburn who is an award-winning script writer, spoken word artist and educator also based in Glasgow.

Kevin had seen me perform as Nob before and so when I applied for an open mic spot on the Sonnet Youth Scratch show he probably knew what to expect and still gave me the green light!

When he arrived the first thing he asked was if I was going to do the spot in character and had a devilish grin when I said that I would be getting Nob out. I asked if the audience would be ready for it and he said, ‘Who cares!’.

I set my camera up on the bar before Nob went on and so caught the open mic act that was on before him.

I thought the crowd would be a bit hoity toity for Nob but he went down not too bad, although Kevin was certainly enjoying it more than most.

Kevin done a poem after break called My Autumn Scotland which is part of a new project he is doing called Suffering From Scottishness and he plucked out 3 women from the audience beforehand to imitate Scottish weather.

That had a bit of a twist to it as one lady had to do sound affects for Scottish Heather. It was quite funny and the poem was excellent.

Here is Kevin’s poem including the bit beforehand where he coerced the unsuspecting victim to the stage.

It was a great night although I had to leave before the end to walk to the underground which was 40 minutes away. Next time I will take my car.
