In the business world of making people laugh
The audience judges a comedian by how he is on stage
If what he or she says doesn’t offend or upset their
sensibilities
If it is in agreement with all that they hold dear
If they act all nice and pretend life is groovy
Then that person is deserving of their cheer
If however, you speak the truth
The truth that most people just do not want to hear
Then they put up barriers, refuse to laugh
They’ll do anything to escape into their beer
It doesn’t matter if what you say is hysterically divine
How can they laugh when they are all so full of fear?
But do not fear my dear friends
For the comedians are all the same
If one stands out amongst their crowd
The rest will call him totally insane
Who does he think he is, not playing our childish game?
We’ve been on the circuit for years now
Just going round and round
We know what the public wants
And it only cost’s five pound
They want cheap laughs with no real thought or insight
No pushing of any barriers
They want to go home and watch the price is right
And forget everything we said
How do we know this, well surely it is obvious?
Why else would the promoter pay our wages
And pat our docile little heads?
Well, to tell you the truth
I am sick and tired of all the bullshit that surrounds
The comedy business world and it’s inbred jester clowns
But it’s not their fault they’ll say, they too are just victims of
society
A society that places money above true freedom of
expression
Do not challenge the audience to think for they may evolve
and not come back
Well, if that’s the way that this game works, I think I’ll give
myself the sack
Are we all victims of a society that refuses to forgive or
understand?
That to get anywhere worth going in life, sometimes you have
to make a stand
Sometimes you have to crawl out of the woodwork and say I
am a man
When we see that life is an ever-changing path toward
nowhere in particular
Then people will change themselves and this fucked up world
for the better
But instead, we all play our part in the stage of life called,
‘Now’
Hoping to please our audience with a sycophantic bow
We may survive, survive but at what price?
Refuse to play the game and be yourself, is that so hard a
sacrifice?
When you love yourself for who you are, then world will love
you too
Only this time it will be genuine to reflect the true love
inside of you
Cheers!
