I saw a The Cosmic Dead gig in Edinburgh advertised on facebook and their name inspired me to click on the link to one of their youtube songs.

I knew within about 30 seconds that I would like to go and see them and as the ticket price was only £8 it became a no-brainer.

I contacted the promoter Duncan Mountain to ask if my son would be able to attend but alas the Venue, Opium, was for over 18 years only so he had to sit this one out.

As I approached the venue I spotted this advertisement for another cool nightclub called The Bongo Club which I would recommend if you fancy something a bit different, which I am sure you can guess by the artwork.

I was the first to arrive and at the door I was met by Duncan who recognised me from our conversations on facebook. We had a little chat and I asked if I could film the bands and he said it should be ok but I better ask the bands.

By that time another guy had arrived and he has a youtube channel called The Fudlip and he said that it would probably be ok as most bands are happy for any kind of exposure these days. I thought that myself but I was just being polite.

After they had set up I did ask the drummer of the support band from Chesire called 1968 if it was ok to film a couple of songs and he told me I could film their whole set.

I would have done but I wanted to keep some battery and storage for the other acts but you can see what I recorded below. Here is The Fudlip’s recording which probably has better sound as he has a proper audio recording device.

The Cosmic Dead had also invited a Japenese Guitarst, Suzuki Junzo to join them on stage but before that he did a 20 odd minute solo spot which was very cool indeed.

Here is The Fudlip’s recording of some of it.

Next up was The Cosmic Dead but before they got on stage I grabbed a quick selfie with Suzuki and checked that he would be joining them onstage to which I got a very definite yes. Cool.

Suzuki joined them from the start and they played 2 songs in a one hour set, well at least I think they did as they had a slight breather about halfway through although at no point did the music stop.

It was a full on aural attack and as I was standing beside one of the speakers it didn’t do my eardrums much good and they were buzzing for about 3 days afterwards. Rock’n’roll eh. Again, here is The Fudlip’s recording.

Afterwards I checked with their Bass player if it was ok to put on youtube and he said I could do what I wanted with them and as I was getting another Selfie, Duncan came over and took a proper photo.

Unfortunately I had camera problems and couldn’t get it to work to take a photo with him but after I left I played around with it and got it going again. I usually have my son with me to deal with such matters as I am a point and press type guy when it comes to cameras.

I didn’t know that Santa was a bit of a vandal. Maybe he’d had a few swallaes and thought he’d spread the Xmas love.

Here are the videos I recorded during the whole evening.

It was certainly well worth the entrance money and if you friend up Duncan on facebook you will be able to keep track with other gigs that he promotes across Scotland.
