The person we bought them from was at the gig but two of his friends couldn’t make it so my son and I were sat beside him and I asked what other gigs he had lined up.
He told me about Thee Oh Sees and so when I got home I checked them out on youtube and immediately purchased tickets.
It was held at the Queen Margaret Union in Glasgow and after we parked we walked through this area which for some reason reminded us both of Kaleiçi in Antalya, where we used to live.
Being Scottish I always try to get the gig in time to catch the support act, so as I get my moneys worth and on this occasion I am very glad I did as they were Prettiest Eyes and really very good.
They all had a certain panache about them but the Bass player in particular was pretty funky and even my 14 year old son thought he was cool.
You can check out the short video clips I made of them below.
I pointed out that he never smiles in any photo and so he suggested we do a role reversal in a selfie to prove that he is cool and I look like an ass in every photo.
I will let you be the judge on that one.
Thee Oh Sees had a very unique way of coming onstage which I haven’t seen any other band on that level do.
I am not sure if they are just saving money on Roadies but they came on and set up their equipment themselves and then after 10-15 minutes they were ready and just started blasting into their set.
I say blasted because they really do put on a full on epic rock and roll show. They have two drummers for a start and the main man in the band, John Dwyer, is a great front man with terrific energy and stage presence as well as a lot of excess spit which he had no hesitation in evicting from his mouth on a regular basis.
The Bass player looked like he had just came from the Sports Hall and hadn’t bothered putting on his socks or trainers but his basslines were superb and a lot of the gig reminded me of Can and Krautrock music in general.
I was going to try and not video the gig so as to be in the moment more but I just couldn’t help myself and as I was down the front I was focused on watching the band live and held the camera below me so please excuse the shaky footage.
We both certainly appeciated Thee Oh Sees though and would recommend them thoroughly to see live.

Cheers!
